Firstly, thank you for finding my site and showing enough interest to even get to this page! Even though Oscars Checklist is live, there are still plenty of features in the works.
In progress:
- New live scoreboard (more interactive)
- Page stats (most watched/predicted movie/nominee)
- Subscribe to a newsletter (finally!)
Done:
- Quick Check: Tinder style swiper UI for marking films as watched quickly
- Invite and add friends and compare progress
- Add films to a watchlist
- Prioritise and de-prioritise categories
- Mark your favourites in each nominated category
- Make predictions for the upcoming Oscar season
- Watch a scoreboard of you and your friends predictions update live during the ceremony for a fully gameified Oscars!
- User stats: e.g. how many people watched a certain film, or what was the combined favourite movie.
The Origin Story of Oscars Checklist
Massive nerd and slightly known podcaster of the worlds 14,000,605th film based podcast: Beyond The Box Set, I’ve been a fan of the Oscars ever since J. Law tripped up!
Being a nerd with too much time on his hands, of course I spent it making spreadsheets, one of which tracked the Oscar nominations me and my friends had watched. It was a complex spreadsheet that nobody could understand, but when the ceremony came, it allowed me to track who predicted best. Now a competent website developer who spends his paternity leave preferring data management to changing nappies, I thought it strange that my crap old spreadsheet was still the best Oscars checklist a quick Google search could find and felt sorry for the people stuck using the inconsistent lists of IMdB and Letterboxd.
So this is for them: a nicely presented website with every Oscar nomination since the dawn of time! You can mark as watched, compare and compete with your friends, make predictions and have a live scoreboard during the Oscars ceremony! Plenty of more features in the works!
