Colman Domingo

Bio:

After serving three decades as a reliable character actor and stage performer, Colman Domingo has finally graduated to leading man status in recent years, capped off by back-to-back Oscar nominations in 2024 and 2025.

After studying journalism in his home state of Pennsylvania, Domingo first began launched his acting career in the mid 90s. Mainstream recognition came slowly, but he soon established himself as a commanding stage performer. In 2013, two decades after his first screen appearance, he finally landed a meaty part in the horror drama Fear The Walking Dead, as the morally complex Victor Strand.

His film career also began to trend upwards in the mid 00s, with roles in acclaimed dramas including The Butler, Selma, If Beale Street Could Talk and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. In 2025, he received his first Oscar nomination playing the title role in a biopic of the under-recognised civil rights champion Baynard Rustin. His performance was widely deemed to be much stronger than the film, which received no other nominations. The Best Actor trophy that year went to Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer.

In 2025 he received his second consecutive nomination in the Best Actor category, this time for the acclaimed prison drama Sing Sing.
